STEP_UP_1 was designed as a highly versatile performance board capable of handling everything from everyday surf to powerful, demanding conditions. Its rocker, outline and bottom contours work together to create a board that feels fast and forgiving when the waves are softer, while still offering the control, hold and precision needed when the surf gets serious.
A wider-than-average nose and continuously curving semi-elliptical outline give the board an easy, catch-free feel while maintaining plenty of usable surface area. The tail pulls in late, keeping speed and responsiveness beneath the rear foot, while the narrower round tail tip adds hold and control in steeper, more powerful waves and tube riding.
Bottom Contours:
A shallow concave runs through the central section of the board, particularly between and beneath the feet, adding lift, speed and freedom. The bottom gradually neutralizes toward the nose and tail for a more settled, forgiving and precise feel. A subtle double concave through the tail adds additional lift and speed in smaller waves while creating extra drive and control when the surf gets more powerful.
Rocker:
A moderate overall rocker is shifted toward the back of the board, creating a lower, faster entry with plenty of drive. The tail rocker carries more curve and release, allowing tighter-radius turns, quicker direction changes and increased control when surfing aggressively from the rear foot.
Outline & Tail:
The semi-elliptical outline features a noticeably wider nose combined with a pulled-in round tail. The tail retains enough width through the fin and rear-foot area to generate speed and maintain responsiveness in everyday conditions, while the narrower tail tip provides hold and confidence in steep or powerful surf.
How to Size It:
The wider nose, low entry rocker and efficient planing area allow the board to be ridden relatively short without sacrificing paddle power or drive. The ideal size will depend on surfer weight, ability and the type of waves the board is intended to cover.
